TGIF

Long time no blog. Here’s whats been going on:

The high of my week was: Eating a corndog for breakfast at the Minnesota State Fair. Also my giant gummy bear on a stick.

The low of my week was: This week has actually been pretty good. Tuesday was our first general membership meeting for Junior League and I went to a great yoga class Wednesday.

A book I am reading:  Currently reading Wool by Hugh Howey. It’s really interesting but it is looonngggg. I’m reading the omnibus edition so it is all the novellas compiled, I think it’s like 550 pages. So slowly but surely I’m getting through it. If you like sci-fi/dystopian fiction I would recommend it. It is only available as an e-book though which I found interesting and I got it through the Kindle library.

For my workouts I completed: Wednesday I went to yoga and this evening I’m going to a barre class. I am off crutches (yay!) but I’m not 100%. I am virtually pain free but I need to be careful about not overdoing it. I still cannot do any high impact activities which unfortunately means no running and that unfortunately means that the marathon isn’t going to happen. I was hopeful that I would be able to return to running this week and would be able to at least run and finish the marathon, but I am still another 2-3 weeks away from even considering running. I’m one of those people who thinks, “I’m probably exaggerating I’m not really that hurt” but the pain is real and it’s still there although much less than before. I was a little depressed that first week, mostly because I had made it so far and my 20 mile run didn’t seem daunting like it did the last time. It actually felt really feasible which made beating my previous marathon time seem like a piece of cake. Also to go from working out 5-6 days a week to being couch ridden was not fun either. I felt like I had done everything right and yet I was still dealt this blow. That’s life though; there are no guarantees. There will be other races and luckily I did not actually completely fracture my tibia which means no surgery, no rods and pins, so at least there is that.

The best money I spent was: It was our 2 year wedding anniversary Monday which meant we spent the whole weekend celebrating. Best money spent was…probably all the dinners out over the weekend. Especially at Butcher and the Boar . Best restaurant in Minneapolis as far as I’m concerned.

My weekend plans are: I’ve got a Junior League social Saturday morning, will probably get in a bike ride too. Sunday I have a committee meeting, barre class and Sunday night is Miss America! Miss Iowa, Taylor Wiebers, won preliminary talent AND preliminary lifestyle & fitness. So proud and I cannot wait for Sunday!

That about sums it up. While I am still sad about the marathon I am excited to get back into yoga, barre, spin, strength training classes full time. I’m even considering going to some ballet classes, even though it’s been quite a few years and I will probably embarrass myself, it’s something that I love that has been neglected for a long time.

Have a good weekend!!

  1. i have been wondering how your leg is doing and whether you would be able to still do the marathon. What a huge bummer. But it sounds like you have the right perspective about it and I am glad you can be active in other ways. I am excited (and nervous) for the marathon but am also looking forward to having it behind me so I can focus more on strength training. I feel like I look my best when I am doing some cardio and lots of strength training and toning type of workouts. After the marathon I might try class pass for a couple of months.
